Christmas Festive Party Menu 2024
To Begin
– Carrot, orange, ginger soup (gfa)(vga)
– Goats cheese mousse, glazed figs, crystalised pear, hazelnut tuile (gf)
- Panne slow roasted pork belly, bramley apple and cinnamon compote, charred chicory and crackling crumb (gfa) (df)
- Salmon and prawn roulade, beetroot salsa, wholemeal bruschetta, leaf, citrus and caramelized ginger dressing (gfa)
To Follow
- Pan fried cod supreme, toasted hazelnut and sea herb butter, cauliflower puree, caramelized banana shallot, wilted spinach, potato fondant and celeriac crisp
- Pan roasted parma ham wrapped pork fillet, caramelized apple, prune and brandy sauce, green beans, stilton mash
- Butter roast turkey breast, cranberry sauce, sage stuffing, pig in blanket, honey mustard baked parsnip and carrot, brussels sprouts with chestnut and bacon, duck fat roasted potatoes and jus (gfa) (dfa)
- Jerusalem artichoke and wild mushroom risotto, topped with truffle oil (gf)(vg)

Always three real ales and a good selection of gins, the food is so good you'll want to have a starter, main course - and a desert 😝 check for the daily specials on the blackboard above the fireplace.
We had a fabulous Sunday roast here today, can’t complain about anything. The staff are friendly and welcoming and super attentive. We had two courses which was very well priced for the quality of food.One thing we would like is to bring back the scotch egg starter please.
Just great in every way, food, drink , service, Mel the owner who we just met was so lovely and friendly, possibly the best roast I’ve ever had
Went for a celebratory meal and was cheerily greeted by the landlord. The food and drink were lovely and the service was relaxed. All in all reasonably priced and will try to go again.
We had a fantastic Sunday Lunch here, decent portions and well cooked. Reasonable enough prices and service was good.
Stopped off whilst cycling from Cambridge to Chelmsford. Just caught lunch time and had Ham Egg and Chips and a really fresh pint of beer. Magnificent
The staff need training on how to meet & greet their diners. Took ages to get food. The camanbert cheese was fantastic. The mackerel & salmon moouse was lovely but very petite in size. The Chicken & rib combo was very poor. The chicken was tasteless. Lacked in basic seasoning and the outside was wet and not crispy. Poor quality in that dish. Took ages to get a repeat drink service. It was not busy so they cannot use that as an excuse. I would not recommend unfortunately. Back in the this was a fantastic pub/restaurant. Disappointed 😞
Lovely pub, with excellent food and beer. We were a group of walkers who'd parked in the car park for a morning walk. They did ask for our lunch time order before our walk, which worked out very well. Super village pub, well recommended 👌
Pretty pub in a nice village. Real ales available. Had a lovely seafood starter lunch at the front of the pub opposite the church. Hit the spot. Looking forward to coming back.

the best fish and chips anywhere in essex or suffolk, the service is fast and very polite, the whole setup is just so inviting, we go with my cousin who lives just around the corner and we look foward to our trips, just love the place
We were really excited about this Sunday lunch. Food was ok. Roast mediocre, vegan option tasty but the sides were pretty bland. Service was the absolute minimum, order taken, food served. No checking if meal ok, asking if more drinks required or even offering dessert menu. After 15 mins of looking at empty plates and the table next to us being cleared despite being served after and with no acknowledgement we thought it was time to leave. Sadly won't return and wouldn't recommend.
Fantastic Sunday lunch and huge ! Fab desert . Really impressed with the food and its a really lovely pub . Disappointing the fires were not on given it’s December and was very cold
The most rudest staff ever . Ignored when walking in , the burger was fabulous but I wasn’t expecting the bacon in my Brie sandwich to be so hard and over crispy, then the hot water in toilet was so hot it scalded my daughter’s hand leaving welts. I approached the manageress to tell her and she just told me the water has to be hot to wash up ! (whilst walking away .) and to use the cold tap ! This is a health and safety issue that should have been addressed and not ignored whilst showing zero concern.i would never return to this pub .
This place is the in place to go , fabulous food , great staff, everyone is so welcoming, I’ve lived in henham for a short time but I’m proud to take my friends and family In for what is always a great meal 10/10

Can’t comment on the food but we had a table booked for today. We walked straight in and walked straight out.Atmosphere was awful and not greeted when entering or standing at the bar. Seemed like a “rough locals pub”
Wonderful lunch served pipping hot and all perfect. Well priced attentive waitresses service with a smile. Great menu with tasty specials. Another 10/10 visit. Definitely a hidden 💎 5 *.

Decent beer but food is over priced for what it is. Avoid the lasagne as its dry and bland.
Nice pub, good atmosphere even if you are just in for a drink. One of the pints was off but it was changed without hesitation. In an absolutely beautiful spot.
Nice village pub with friendly staff, good beer, warming fire and dog friendly. Nice med rare beef and Yorkshire Puds! Highly recommended!
Lovely atmosphere in this traditional pub with good food options. A mishap with the dessert was quickly cleared up! Happy to go there again!
Fantastic country pub very clean and superb furnishing's had the haddock and chip's my wife said it was the best pub fish and chip's she has ever eaten and she has eaten a lot of fish and chip's. will be back

The crispy skin on the chicken was simply perfect! Couldn't fault the food at all. The staff let the experience down slightly, I felt pressured to order quickly, but overall a good afternoon meal
Country pub in a delightful village with a decent sized garden. Plenty of parking at the rear, a nice place to have a modestly priced lunch.

Myself and my friends visited this lovely pub today and I had to write a review as I’ve not had amazing food like this out in a long time! Set in such a lovely corner of the village with the sun shining we sat outside, staff were lovely, would highly recommend and most certainly be back again.

Lovely place. Food good. Great gluten free options but it's a shame the sandwiches were not 1 and a half rounds to match the size of the 'normal' ones.
Delicious food and great staff. Child friendly. Especially enjoyed the roast beef, and the arancini. Only suggestion would be to have more allergen information on the menu, but really nice place!

Probably the best food I had during my visit in England!!!!Ok story time:It is 3 of us traveling around Europe and having an adventure. We were passing by from London on our way to Italy through way of Stansted Airport. We were lucky to find an Airbnb in this small town and what an amazing treat. Our host was the best ever! She even called for us to reserve a table since it was a Saturday night and it might be busy.Walked in the middle of the dark to the pub with a flashlight, and got there to a cozy restaurant that smelled great!Now I can imagine being a local and being welcomed with warm regards, thus being complete strangers and not getting a greeting of any kind isn’t a big deal.We sat down and were given a menu to review over. Two teens were the waiting staff and seemed eager to interact with locals.When the food finally came out....damnnnn! What a surprise! Delicious food, big portions and the presentation and flavors matched that of any fine dining restaurant in a big metropolis. Whoever the chef(s) here is, hats of to you! Went here for Father's Day and had a lovely time! The roast was really good, the choice of craft beers was good and there were multiple vegetarian options which is good for a pub! Great atmosphere, will definitely be coming back soon
